Doze Lighting System
University Project - October 2022
40% of autistic people in our community suffer from the common trait of sleep difficulty. As many of us know, good quality sleep is essential for our health and well-being.
With the problem in mind, we would like to introduce Doze, A Rethink On Routine for better sleep.
For this university brief I worked alongside Sam Davison you can view more of sam’s work at samiddigitalstudio.myportfolio.com/work
Doze is a lighting system, designed to improve sleep and visually notify autistic individuals to get ready for bed. The design is based on the science of red light exposure, to communicate a calming, low-sensory environment for winding down and falling asleep.
Through displaying tasks to complete before going to bed, the user is guided into learning a routine that becomes a positive part of their home life.
By using routine forming, the individual can feel safer and more secure, giving a sense of predictability and ease to the mind. And a feeling of ownership over their routine. There are just a few things we have made to go alongside our main devices; the App and Doze Hub light, and Doze Tile Lights.
Doze Brand Identity
My role for this project was to design the brand identity for the product. Our aim for the brand is to create independence through routine forming and lighting to promote better sleep patterns. This has been reflected in the brand values.
Doze Brand Values:
Creating connections with family and users
Creating a brand that rewards our users for being independent.
Helping users create a routine that reduces stress and anxiety in their lives.
Helping the user have a good sleep at night.
The brand values have been used to create a visual identity system reflected in the app, posters, flyers, social media post, packaging and our website.
Doze App Function
Part of my role for this project was to design the App which acts as a digital remote, connected to each of the lighting devices. Within the app, custom adaptability is the biggest contributor to user experience for each person’s daily routine. This designed feature is to cater to different spectrums of autism and give users control of choices and needs.
Here, you are able to edit tiles and hubs. With colours, and notifying alarms along with connecting with whanau through messaging. These connections can be enabled or disabled by the user at any time.
Doze Poster Campaign
Another role I had for this project was to design the Posters to sell our brand & product. These posters have detail key facts about our Doze system, making it an appropriate investment into the personal wellbeing of autistic people. Located in medical facilities, pharmacies, and technology.
My idea behind the design was to show our brand identity system which can be visually identifiable to our audience and drawing them in. The second poster has been designed to promote sleep with light. Both posters have a QR code that takes our audience to our website for more information.
