Scribble Design Conference

University Project - June 2022

Scribble Design Conference was part of a university project where I was asked to create a one-day conference on the topic of communication design held at Massey University directed at designers.

The theme I chose for this conference was about the design process and how it is never linear. The rhetorical approach I chose for this was a ‘scribble’ shown on top of a person's head. This was to communicate how chaotic and sometimes overwhelming this thought process can be for a designer.

Part of this project I was asked to design a poster to engage the audience, a website to inform and an experience as part of the conference.

Scribble Posters

For the poster, I chose the concept of using patterns and bold use of colour was to create a positive atmosphere for the viewer. This was to show that yes, the design process can be a struggle at times however this process itself can help a designer create a great project in the end.

As part of this conference, I was asked to design a website to help inform my audience about the guest speakers and advise about the experience users can take part in.

Scribble Experience

As part of the Scribble Design Conference, we were asked to create an experience for our audience to part take in. The concept for my conference was based on the idea of a chalkboard.

For Scribble, experienced users are encouraged to pick up a bit of chalk and draw on the walls in Block 12, at Massey University. This emphasizes the idea of users creating a positive and engaging atmosphere.

This concept of chalk lines also creates a way-finding system to help users navigate their way around using the same visual identity as the ‘scribble’ with subjective colours.
